Anne Kyyrö Quinn at ICFF New York 17 - 20 May 2003 - press release

'For me, finding an elegant and unobtrusive cushion design that will compliment a sharp-lined super-slick Italian sofa had always been a mission, until I discovered the refined work of Anne Kyyrö Quinn whose stunning textile designs have so effortlessly fused textile into three dimensional product design'. Max Fraser, author of Design UK II.

Finnish born designer, Anne Kyyrö Quinn who is living and working in London, produces stylish contemporary home accessories with distinctive raised textural detailing. Kyyrö Quinn has developed her own unique way of constructing sculptural three-dimensional textile surfaces. This is her second year showing at ICFF. Her debut last year was well received and her new products this year look set to continue that trend.

Anne Kyyrö Quinn's distinctive style comes from her clean lines and an innovative selection of materials and eye-catching colour combinations. Anne Kyyrö Quinn juxtaposes materials not traditionally used for interior furnishings - taking utilitarian fabrics like sail cloth or industrial felt and contrasting them with high quality linens and woollen cloths.

Anne Kyyrö Quinn's growing range of products illustrates a brilliant crossover between the disciplines of handicraft and of industrial design which, when combined with the vision and daring to experiment with the unconventional or unfashionable, has created a blossoming of innovation. With all of her designs there is a Nordic clarity, which makes them easily recognisable. 'Loop', 'Laine', 'Linea' and 'Bold Circles' are just a few designs that have achieved much acclaim with the press both in the UK and internationally.

ICFF 2003 sees the launch of two new designs - 'Twist' and 'Origami'. The 'Origami' is both clever and beautiful, introducing new bright colour combinations not before seen in the collection. In a change from some of Anne's earlier designs 'Origami' is looser and more organic in its form. Whilst retaining the raised relief and 3-D detailing of earlier designs, 'Origami' places a far greater emphasis upon the surface design and sharply contrasting colours than previously seen.

The 'Twist' is yet another example of the extraordinary flexibility of the materials Anne Kyyrö Quinn has selected. She has created another dynamic three-dimensional design that when it catches the light and plays with it, making additional patterns of light and shade that alters depending on ones viewpoint and the time of day. They are being shown as sample cushions and wall-panels designs, but both 'Origami' or 'Twist' designs will also be available as blinds and throws.

Another new development is the introduction of 100% linens into the range of materials, giving the products a lighter, cooler feel - more suited to the warmer weather of spring and summer seasons. The mixing of linen and felts creates yet another intriguing contrast between different materials and textures that has become a signature of Anne's work.
